People Talking and Singing
We went to People Talking and Singing last night and had a wonderful time. The Seattle Metblogs folks summed it up so I don't have to:
Bumbershoot Day 0
Dracula's Daughter
Our overall reactions: Huge thumbs up to Daniel Handler, John Hodgman, Sarah Vowel, and Colin Meloy. We were underwhelmed by the music of Smoosh but thought they were adorable. We would have enjoyed the other musical acts a lot more had we been well-rested. Colin Meloy's singing from the Decemberists' forthcoming album was so hauntingly beautiful we couldn't resist it even through our sleep fog. I'll definitely be buying that album when it comes out next month.
Matt and Kristen also had tickets, and we were able to get the people sitting next to us to swap with them so we could all sit together. This was a bonus because Matt could lean over and explain about some of the musicians. How many music lovers do I need to have in my life before I will finally know what is going on? A long succession of people have tried to help me with my little music problem and I continue to be a late adopter... (sorry, Johanna, Neil, and many others!)
Meanwhile, I'm still in recovery from going to Neighbours on Thursday. My neck and shoulders are a big knotty mess from my headbanging foolishness. Chris has promised to see what he can do.
